Gròóvig cleanup plan One of the
most amazing things that burners do is disappear, completely, and leave very
little trace. At Gròóvig, we will work towards
leaving no trace ourselves and trying to remove the traces of others. Nearly
all of us are seasoned burners with several to many trips to the playa under
our belts. Over the years, we have learned what not to do. For example, I
will never again drain a water bed on the playa or bring sequin-covered
fabric for tent sides. We will work
hard to reduce the amount of potential MOOP we bring, keep track of our
potential MOOP while there and collect any MOOP we see, remove everything
when we leave, down to the grey water, and spend time cleaning up the playa
before we leave. Before the
event we will: ·
Remove packaging from things we are bringing ·
Plan activities that avoid giving out things that can
become moop ·
Find or make trash sorters, linoleum, carpet, and
other devices to keep stuff from becoming moop ·
Educate all our virgins about the depths of leaving no
trace ·
Get assurance from all camp members that they will spend
several hours cleaning up areas outside our theme camp before they leave ·
Save up and perhaps decorate portable ashtrays for
campmates or to give out to folks who don't have them ·
Make sure we have enough cargo space to take back all our
trash During the
event we will: ·
Have obvious, copious covered locations for garbage ·
Make sure all light objects are secured if the wind picks
up ·
Pick up any MOOP we see ·
Have a daily cleaning time when the camp gets freshened
up ·
Store greywater from our shower
and kitchen and either take it back with us or have it sucked by the honeybucket people ·
Carry portable ashtrays for ourselves or our friends who
are smoking. At the end
of the event we will: ·
Pack up all of our belongings, including garbage and greywater, to be transported back to ·
In a line, walk our entire camp picking up anything that
isn't playa ·
Remove some garbage from a burn platform if people stop
burning things on it long enough to let it cool down ·
Spend several hours each on MOOP patrol outside our camp ·
Wave a sorry goodbye Most of our
camp members will be staying until Monday, so we will have time to do a good
clean up after the burn. -Heather, Gròóvig minister of MOOP |
